AhlulBayt News Agency - Eight German nationals were among 22 fake jihadists killed in airstrikes on an so-called Islamic State (IS) stronghold in northern Iraq, a Kurdish official said Saturday.
The official told German news agency DPA that coalition jets bombarded the village of Aski Mosul, in territory held by the extremists, but would not say when the strikes took place.
Self-declared Islamic State terror group is believed to have recruited thousands of foreigners as it has swept across Iraq and neighboring Syria.
About 600 people have left Germany to wage jihad or pledge allegiance to the so-called IS ‘caliphate’, according to German security officials.

Record numbers of foreign fighters from more than half of the world’s countries are joining Islamist and al-Qaida groups, mostly in Syria, Iraq and increasingly in Libya, according to a UN report released in April.
More than 25,000 foreign fighters are involved in armed conflicts from over 100 countries, the report by a UN panel of experts said.
