Several minority organisations jointly held a rally under the aegis of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board here on Monday against the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024, and demanded that all Opposition parties unite against the BJP and vote against the bill when tabled in the Lok Sabha.

He added: 'Due to the possibility of passing the Waqf Bill in the Parliament session starting from March 10, the All India Muslim Personal Board has announced a sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi from March 13. A large number of Muslims and other people have been appealed to join it.'

Protest in Lucknow against Waqf bill

Lucknow: A massive protest was held at the historic Asafi Mosque in Lucknow after Friday prayers against the Waqf Bill. Protesters demanded the immediate withdrawal of the bill, calling it an attack on the rights of Muslims.

During the demonstration, people carried banners and posters while raising slogans, stating that the bill would increase government interference in Waqf properties, ultimately harming religious and social structures. Several religious leaders and social activists also addressed the gathering.

The protesters warned that if the government does not heed their demands, the protests will intensify. They emphasized that they would fight at all levels to protect Waqf properties.

The administration remained vigilant, deploying tight security around the mosque. However, the protest remained peaceful, with no reports of any untoward incidents.

Why is the Waqf Bill Controversial?

The Waqf Bill has sparked a nationwide debate. Critics argue that it will increase government control over Waqf properties, potentially disrupting religious and social activities. On the other hand, the government claims that the bill aims to enhance transparency and improve the management of Waqf assets.
