National Mosque in Accra hosts ‘Ramadan Welcome’ Quran recitation

The National Mosque in Accra, the capital of Ghana, hosted an annual Quran recitation event known as Ramadan Marhaba (Welcome) to usher in the month of fasting.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The National Mosque in Accra, the capital of Ghana, hosted an annual Quran recitation event known as Ramadan Marhaba (Welcome) to usher in the month of fasting.

More than 500 Muslim children of different nationalities based in the country, gathered at the Mosque in Nima, Accra, to showcase their talents in Quran recitation.

The event, which heralds the month of Ramadan, was also aimed at exposing the children to the dos and don'ts during the fasting period and the benefits that come with it.

The Deputy Administrator of the National Mosque, Alhaji Jabir Kango, told the Daily Graphic, "If we don't introduce our children to the faith very early, they might end up as deviants in society".

He said the rationale for the event was to shape the lives of the children by making Quran recitation a daily practice to build their faith in God.

Dressed in their favorite Jenabiya and Abaya apparel - long, loose-fitting garments that cover the entire body, the children lived up to expectations by reciting and delivering a well-rehearsed choreography that illustrated some of the stories in the verses.

The Supervisor of the program, Ayuba Ismail Umar, said the power of Ramadan could not be equated to any force.

"It is a month when all sins are forgiven. A month of promotion, rewards, healing and any good thing you can think of," he said.
