Malaysia: Mosques to use cash aid for welfare activities

Masjid Parit Perpat Rengit committee chairman Ismail Wahab said it was the first time the mosque received cash aid.

BATU PAHAT (Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Mosque and surau committees were told to forge closer ties with the public.“The committees should have more community-based programmes to help the poor and needy as well as gotong-royong other than religious activities,” said Batu Pahat MP Dr Mohd Puad Zakarshi.Through such activities, he said, it would help the religious authorities to know issues faced by the people and take quick action to lend them a hand.“The committee must open their minds, live out of the box as well as know their roles for the community,” he said at the distribution of cash aid to representatives from 44 mosques and 167 suraus in the district at Dewan Jublic Intan here recently.The mosques received RM3,000 while suraus received RM1,000 each from the parliament allocation for their respective administrative expenses and welfare activities.Masjid Parit Bilal committee chairman Mohamad Azmin said the cash received would be put into the mosque’s fund to help the single mothers in their community.Another mosque imam Mohd Suhadi Roslan, from Kampung Sungai Jambi Darat Rengit, said he was thankful for the cash aid and it would be used for activities for at the mosque.Masjid Parit Perpat Rengit committee chairman Ismail Wahab said it was the first time the mosque received cash aid.He added that the mosque committee was grateful for the cash aid because they needed it for welfare activities./129
