AhlulBayt News Agency: Israel’s ongoing blockade of aid and nearly two years of conflict have left Gaza’s children in a dire humanitarian crisis, warns the United Nations children's agency, UNICEF.
UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell highlighted that children in Gaza not only endure relentless airstrikes but are also being deprived of essential supplies, medical care, and basic services.
“With every passing day, the aid blockade increases the risk of starvation, illness, and death. There is absolutely no justification for this,” Russell stated, as cited by Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper. She described worsening conditions, noting restrictions on fishing, the closure of bakeries, declining water production, and near-empty market shelves.
Over the past month, families have faced difficult choices between basic needs like bathing, cleaning, and cooking, as water access continues to diminish. Russell further warned that vaccine shortages are exacerbating the rapid spread of diseases.
Malnutrition is surging, she added, reporting that over 9,000 children have been treated for acute malnutrition since the start of the year.
