Israeli forces storm Ibrahimi Mosque ahead of settler incursion

Israeli forces stormed the Ibrahimi Mosque in al-Khalil, closing markets and installing checkpoints ahead of a settler incursion. The occupation’s strategy of spatial division deprives Palestinians of access to holy sites, exploiting Jewish holidays to impose collective punishment.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Israeli occupation forces (IOF) stormed the courtyard of the Ibrahimi Mosque in al-Khalil, intensifying their presence in the surrounding neighborhoods of the Old City. This move comes ahead of a planned large-scale incursion by settlers under the pretext of Jewish holidays.

Local sources reported that the IOF has reinforced military checkpoints and installed electronic gates leading to the Mosque. Additionally, markets in the Old City have been closed to facilitate the settlers’ incursion into the Mosque and its corridors.

The closure of the Ibrahimi Mosque is part of a broader strategy of temporal and spatial division, with the occupation permanently seizing approximately 36% of the Mosque’s space. The site is completely closed to Palestinian worshipers for ten days annually under the justification of Jewish holidays, depriving them of their right to practice religious rituals.

Israeli authorities exploit Jewish holidays to impose collective punishment on Palestinians, tightening restrictions by closing checkpoints, obstructing movement, and preventing access to holy sites. The IOF also continues to facilitate settler incursions into Palestinian cities and Islamic and archaeological sites, particularly the Ibrahimi Mosque in al-Khalil and the Aqsa Mosque in Occupied Jerusalem.
