AhlulBayt News Agency: Despite losing both his legs in the war, Ahmad Abu Mohsen refuses to give up his mission, continuing to teach the Quran to hundreds of students in a makeshift tent in Rafah, Gaza.
After Israeli forces destroyed Al-Anbiya Mosque, where he once worked, Abu Mohsen was severely injured. However, his injuries did not deter him from continuing his mission. Now, he teaches children in a makeshift prayer space under a tent.
“I was wounded last Ramadan and couldn’t continue my work in Quranic education,” he said.
“Now, by God’s grace, I have recovered, and after the war ended, we managed to establish this prayer space to teach Quran memorization. Praise be to God, students come here every day to learn.”
Abu Mohsen acknowledged the challenges of teaching in a tent, especially with extreme temperatures. “A mosque was much better in both hot and cold weather,” he said. “But, thank God, the students are determined to learn and memorize the Quran.”
The daily routine at the school begins with the dawn prayer. After the midday prayer, students attend Quran memorization sessions, followed by lessons on Islamic teachings and recitation rules in the afternoon.
Describing the attack that left him injured, Abu Mohsen recalled: “I was walking to the mosque in Rafah when Israeli forces targeted me. I thank God for what happened. I hope my legs have preceded me to paradise.”
Mohammed Mohsen, one of the students, reflected on the difficulties of Ramadan this year. “Ramadan in the tents is completely different from before the war when the occupiers destroyed the mosques,” he said. “But we thank God for teachers like Ahmad Abu Mohsen, who help young people and children memorize the Quran.”
Another student, Louay Shaheen, expressed his determination to continue learning despite the destruction. “Even with all the devastation and bombings in Rafah, we are committed to completing our Quran memorization,” he said.
15 months of Israeli war on the besieged Gaza Strip left much of the region in ruins, including hundreds of mosques.
