Sheikh Akhtari: Israeli crimes outcome of lack of unity in Muslim World

A senior Iranian cleric said the Zionist regime’s crimes are the result of a lack of unity in the Muslim Ummah.

AhlulBayt News Agency: A senior Iranian cleric said the Zionist regime’s crimes are the result of a lack of unity in the Muslim Ummah.

Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Hassan Akhtari, head of the central headquarters for commemorating the Islamic Unity Week, made the remark in a press conference in Tehran on Sunday where he elaborated on the programs scheduled to be held during the Unity Week.

Why is the Israeli regime committing so many crimes against Palestinians today, he said. “Because Muslim countries are not standing against Israeli crimes.”

The cleric added that Muslim states have many capacities to make the Tel Aviv regime end its atrocities in Palestine and the Gaza Strip.

He stressed that the issue of Palestine and oppression of Palestinians should be a focus of attention in the Islamic Unity Week.

The crimes being committed by the Zionists, the genocide and the killing of children by the Israeli regime should be explained more in this week, he stated.

He also said Muslim unity is among major issues in Islam and that the Holy Quran underlines interaction among Muslims as brothers and avoiding discord and disunity.

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) has also stressed unity among Muslims and strived for its realization, he noted.

Hojat-ol-Islam Akhtari said the main motto of the Islamic Unity Week this year is “Unity of Muslim Ummah; Saving Oppressed Gaza”.

He added that honoring families of martyrs, holding cultural and religious programs, organizing Quran recitation sessions, holding various cultural and sports competitions are among the planned activities for the Islamic Unity Week.

One of the main programs is holding the International Islamic Unity Conference in Tehran by the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, he went on to say.

The 17th day of Rabi al-Awwal, which falls on September 21 this year, is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month (Thursday, September 16) as the birthday of the last prophet.

The interval between the two dates was declared the Islamic Unity Week by the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, in the 1980s.
