Gaza under threat of food security

International organizations have repeatedly released reports and numbers on the social, health, and food situation in the region, and have warned of the destructive outcomes of the blockade.

What is even more catastrophic than the blockade are the sanctions and pressures exerted by the Palestinian authority, which have increased in past months, while the Zionist regime had been destroying infrastructure, cutting off water and electricity. Even the Egyptians had a hand in this, as they’ve closed down the Rafah checkpoint, Gaza’s only crossing in this oppressive blockade.

The people of Gaza resisted against Israel in a number of wars in 2007 and 2008, but were never able to comprehend the pressures exerted by Abou Mazen. Sanctions, cutting off power, worker rights, etc…gave the people more suffering than the outcomes of the war.

The Turkish “Ghazi Dastik” organization released a report on World Food Day, revealing that 80 percent of Gaza Strip residents do not have food security because of 11 years of blockade.

The organization had especially warned of child malnourishment in the strip. All of these pressures are taking place amidst a national reconciliation in Palestine that is set to take things to a new horizon, thereby perhaps lessening the suffering of the people of Gaza. That horizon is yet to be well-perceived, and there is room for doubt. That is why Palestinian groups announced that the continuation of these sanctions by the Palestinian authority on the Gaza strip, and their persistence, would sabotage national reconciliation.
