Grand Ayatollah Makarem urges West apologize to Muslims

Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi on Wednesday called for the West to abandon adventurism and make an apology to Muslims worldwide for insulting Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The grand ayatollah who is a leading religious figure for many Shiite Muslims made the remarks commenting on the new insulting move of a French weekly magazine against the prophet of Islam (PBUH).

One week after a terrorist attack against Charlie Hebdo’s offices in Paris on January 7 which left 12 people dead, the French weekly published another offensive cartoon against the holy Prophet of Islam in its latest edition.

“A group of Takfiri terrorists brought up by the West have gone to France and committed a crime which is strongly condemned by all of us,” said the Grand Ayatollah.

Condemning “any form of terror,” the senior cleric said Western politicians have embarked on adventurism instead of eradicating terrorism and have changed it into a means for insulting the Islamic world and its holy prophet.”

“Offending the prophet of Islam (PBUH) is a dagger through the hearts of all Muslims not an example of the freedom of expression,' said Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi.

He criticized the approach of Western policy-makers regarding the issue and urged them to follow rationalism instead of adventurism.
