The United Nations Security Council has strongly condemned the recent deadly bomb attacks in Yemen that left over 70 people dead.

Speaking after a closed-door consultation in New York on Friday, Maria Cristina Perceval of Argentina, the president of the UN Security Council for October, said the “heinous acts” were “aimed at undermining Yemen’s stability,”

“The members of the Security Council reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, and that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable regardless of their motivation, wherever and whenever and by whomsoever committed,” she said.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has also slammed the attacks, describing them as “heinous criminal acts” that “cannot be justified by any means.”

Al-Qaeda’s wing in Yemen has claimed responsibility for the Thursday bomb attacks targeting Yemeni Houthis and other revolutionaries.

The attacks, in the Yemeni capital Sana’a, Bayda and also in Hadramawt were carried out after Prime Minister-designate Ahmed Awad was forced to turn down the post amid a standoff between leaders of Ansarullah revolutionaries of the Shia Houthi movement and President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
