Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has announced the Islamic Republic considers neighboring countries its friends and warned that any aggressor would face a severe response.
In an interview with the Independent Arabia, Araghchi said that the current conflict was imposed on the region and stressed that Iran does not view its neighbors as enemies.
The Iranian minister said he remains in continuous contact with his Saudi counterpart.
Araghchi added that Saudi officials have assured Tehran they are fully committed to preventing their territory, waters, or airspace from being used against Iran. He expressed hope that Riyadh would remain committed to the rapprochement agreement reached in Beijing.
The Iranian diplomat blamed rising tensions on the US and Israeli criminal regimes, saying their actions had placed the entire region at risk. He also criticized the presence of US military bases in the region, arguing that they have brought nothing but insecurity.
Analysts note that the joint US-Israeli invasion, which began on February 28, 2026, following the martyrdom of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, disregarded ongoing indirect negotiations. In response, Iran launched precise retaliatory strikes against Israeli positions and US bases, citing its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and warning that further escalation would invite a harsher reaction.
