Lebanon Parliament Speaker Berri Warns of Security Vacuum as “Mechanism” Committee Fades

AhlulBayt News Agency: Amid continued “Israeli” escalation in southern Lebanon, a significant security gap has emerged due to the absence of the “Mechanism” committee, which has effectively ceased to function.

Attacks have intensified, agreements are being weakened, and efforts are underway to impose new conditions that blur the line between security and politics, while Lebanon maintains its refusal to engage in direct negotiations with the “Israeli” occupation.

Commenting on the situation, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri told Al‑Joumhouria that he rejects the spread of falsehoods and distortions that damage Lebanon’s position, create internal confusion, and falsely imply that Lebanon has softened its stance toward “Israel” or abandoned its principles.

Berri reiterated, “Our stance is clear: we are committed to the cessation‑of‑hostilities agreement, and we remain firmly attached to the ‘Mechanism’ committee in both structure and purpose.”

He noted that the “Mechanism” committee is rooted in the ceasefire agreement itself, and Lebanon relies on it to curb aggression, implement the agreement, monitor adherence, and prevent violations.

However, he stressed that “Israel” is actively seeking to dismantle this committee, despite its shortcomings and its failure to fully carry out its responsibilities.
