AhlulBayt News Agency: For the first time in Iraqi universities, the Department of Nahj al-Balagha and Islamic Education was launched in a ceremony at Al-Zahra (SA) University in Karbala.
Sheikh Abdul Mahdi al-Karbalayi, the representative of Iraqi top Shia cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani addressed the ceremony.
He said this major had not been taught at any university in Iraq before.
The goal of teaching the sciences of Nahj al-Balagha is to practice the teachings of this book and to raise students’ awareness of the importance of the teachings of Nahj al-Balagha, he stressed.
Nahj al-Balagha is a great encyclopedia of Islamic and human knowledge that is not only for Iraq and Muslims but for all humanity, providing solutions that encompass various aspects of life, he stated.
Zohair Mohammad Ali, the vice president of Al-Zahra University, also addressed the ceremony, saying the establishment of the Nahj al-Balagha and Islamic Education major at the university is a significant step and a turning point in the path of higher education and scientific research.
This is the first time such a program has been launched in both public and private universities in Iraq, he noted.
Mohammad Ali noted that the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine and the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research have given special attention to the establishment of this important program, which focuses on the teachings and sciences of Nahj al-Balagha.
Nahj al-Balagha is a collection of sermons, letters and sayings left as a memorial from the Imam Ali (AS). The book was compiled by Sayed Radhi over a thousand years ago.
