72 inmates memorize entire Quran in Iran's prisons: Official

AhlulBayt News Agency: An Iranian official said 72 inmates in the country’s prisons have learned the entire Quran by heart.

Head of Iran’s Prisons Organization Gholamali Mohammadi highlighted the organization’s approach of promoting a reformative educational culture in prisons based on institutionalizing Quranic issues.

He said Quranic education is provided to prisoners by experienced clerics in areas such as Quran recitation, reading, Tajweed, interpretation, and memorization.

He said the aim is to familiarize prisoners with the Quran and ultimately help them develop a connection with the divine words, steering them towards reform and reintegration into society.

Mohammadi referred to the effective activities of Quran instructors in the Dar-ol-Quran centers established in prisons and said this approach has led a significant number of inmates across the country to engage in memorizing the Quran, from one Juz (part) to the entire 30 Juzes.

He noted that 72 prisoners have so far managed to memorize the entire Quran.

Earlier, Mohammadi told IQNA that many inmates, previously unfamiliar with the Quran, have discovered its teachings while in prison.

He noted that 518 Dar al-Quran centers have been established in prisons across the country to bring the Quran into jails.
