Iranian Embassy in Sweden urges elites’ action against desecration of Quran

The Cultural Section of the Iranian Embassy in Sweden has issued a statement, strongly condemning the desecration of the holy Quran in the European country, urging Swedish elites not to stay silent on such destructive and outrageous acts.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Cultural Section of the Iranian Embassy in Sweden has issued a statement, strongly condemning the desecration of the holy Quran in the European country, urging Swedish elites not to stay silent on such destructive and outrageous acts.

The statement said that the burning of a copy of Quran in Sweden violates religious rules and is against moral principles, warning that the act is a threat to the security and integrity of the Swedish society as well.

“How is it possible that a society, which is proud of multi-culturalism and migrants account for more than one-fourth of its population and has managed to supply a large number of its skilled workers from among migrants especially Muslims, remains silent in the face of insults to their holiest and most important book, the holy Quran?”

The statement warned that provoking anger of some sections of the Swedish population as well as hundreds of millions of Muslims across the world would not send a positive message from Sweden to the world.

The silence of religious leaders and elites on such a reprehensible measure is surprising and far from expectation, the statement said, warning that such measures could threaten Sweden’s national interest in the short term and long term, and cause discontent among a key section of the Swedish population.

Social elites and those caring about Swedish culture are excepted not to remain silent on these outrageous acts and help prevent a process that would undoubtedly be harmful to the Swedish society and threaten peace and coexistence in that country.

On January 21, a Swedish-Danish politician burned a copy of the holy Quran outside the Turkish Embassy in the capital Stockholm.

That caused uproar among Muslim states which strongly condemned the sacrilegious measure and warned against the rising acts triggering violence.
