US, Israel's plots against Iraq foiled by liberation of Mosul from ISIS: Iranian MP

“The US and its regional as well as their European allies were the main losers of the liberation of Mosul,” Borujerdi said on Saturday.

He described liberation of Mosul as “the biggest step taken over the past years” in efforts to uproot terrorism in Iraq.

Boroujerdi added that the US and its allies had plotted to disintegrate Iraq through their Takfiri proxies and later use the ISIS rule in the Arab state to advance their policies.

“The ISIS was, however, defeated,” he said, adding that the terror group’s collapse “means the defeat of the US and the Zionist regime”.

In relevant remarks last Tuesday, Deputy Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces Brigadier General Massoud Jazzayeri underlined that the Iraqi army and popular forces actually defeated the US and other supporters of terrorists by capturing Mosul and Iraq's territories.

"The rough terrorism in the region is nothing separated from the US proxy war and therefore, the terrorists' failure in major parts of Iraq, specially Mosul, is considered as the US failure in the region and means victory of resistance (front)," General Jazzayeri said.

He predicted that the events which led to the failure of terrorists who are backed by the US and the reactionary regimes in the region will also happen in Syria, Yemen and other countries which have come under attack.

Mosul fell in June 2014, when the ISIS in an attack took control of the city. Iraqi forces launched the operation to retake Mosul on October 16, 2016.

The Eastern part of Mosul was recaptured from the ISIS in about three months and the most populated part of the city, known as the Old City of Mosul, in the Western bank of Tigris River was liberated in recent days.
