Iran always supported Afghan immigrants even in sanction situation: Spokesman

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iran’s government spokesman Ali Bahadori Jahromi has slammed Britain for its plan to send asylum seekers to Rwanda.

In a tweet posted on his page on Saturday, the Iranian official said: “Britain plans to send asylum seekers to Rwanda under human rights pretexts. That’s while Iran has for years hosted Afghan refugees and asylum seekers, even when it was under sanctions and without receiving international assistance.”

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman has also criticized the British plan. Saeed Khatibzadeh said that Britain is shirking its international obligations and responsibilities.

The British government announced its plan on Thursday, saying it aims to fix “its broken asylum system.”

The UN has said the plan raises human rights concerns, while rights groups have called it inhumane.
