(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Muslim worshippers lined the road outside Balfour Road Mosque with intricate carpets and invited neighbours of all faiths to share an Iftar meal with them on Sunday, June 10.
“It was an amazing experience - a real buzz,” said one of the mosques’ trustees Bashir Patel, 37.
“We wanted to celebrate the month of Ramadan with the wider community and show them some of the good food we eat.”
Observance of Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam and is marked by central to Ramadan is Sawm - fasting from dusk until dawn.
Guests broke fast at sunset, first by eating fruit and dates, and then with Haleem - a meat stew popular in the Indian subcontinent.
