(AhlulBayt News Agency) - For the second time in 2016, someone defaced the front of the Owensboro Islamic Center in Kentucky, United States of America, but this time, vandals left a larger mess, by spraying paintballs on the sign and the front door.
"Think if somebody vandalized other religious places, you're not going to feel good about it because a religion is about peace and harmony and living together," Assedu Kalik said.
Kalik's family has been down this road before when his wife was degraded for wearing a hijab, and when the Owensboro Islamic Center was defaced back in January. "People tend to finger point a Muslim for any terrorist act and people tend to think about it," Kalik said.
Since the last incident, both Islamic centers have circulated a message in their communities, urging them not to take the actions of a few which are what over a billion Muslims in the world stand for.
"People do not know about our faith. But if you get to know more about it, you will not do things like this," Kalik pointed out.
"If we for one second give in to any type of fear or tactic or whatever motivated this type of vandalism if we give in to that then we let the small minority win," said Amani Rimawi of the Evansville Islamic Center. Five priests in Owensboro have offered to clean everything up.
On the other side, Owensboro police request to anyone who has information about the incident to come forward.
