KARACHI, Pakistan (AhlulBayt News Agency) - A Shiite trustee of an Imambargah (Shia religious place for mourning) and senior office-bearer of a private schools association was shot and martyred and his son injured in a suspected anti-Shia attack in Karachi on Friday night.
According to police and officials of a religious party, Mansoor Zaidi, 55, and his son, Ammar Mansoor, were attacked by armed men outside their home in Block-8, Gulistan-i-Jauhar.
They were taken to a private hospital in the area, where Mansoor was pronounced as dead. His injured son was later shifted to the JPMC. The condition of Ammar was critical as he received wounds on his chest, said Dr Seemin Jamali, head of JPMC’s emergency department.
Majils Wahdatul Muslimeen spokesperson said that Mansoor Zaidi and his son had just arrived home after attending Imam Hussain mourning ceremony when they were targeted.
The party official said Mansoor Zaidi, owner of Mehran School in Shah Faisal Colony, was secretary of the Private Schools Management Association.
Concerned over the law and order situation in the city, the provincial government announced a ban on motorcycle pillion riding from 6pm on Saturday till the 11th of Muharram.Sindh IGP AD Khowaja took notice of the firing incidents and ordered the arrest of culprits. He sought a detailed report from the DIG East.
He also told all police stations to ensure effective security for the Imambargah and majalis, besides carrying out patrolling and snap checking. He directed the police officials to expedite intelligence surveillance against criminal elements.
The Sindh Rangers announced that a high alert had been issued to ensure security during the Ashura.A press release issued by the paramilitary force said all citizens should carry on them their national identification cards and the necessary documents of their vehicles, which would be examined during snap checking.
