Bahraini Shiite Activist: Persian Gulf Arab Regimes Supporting Israel's Settlement Activities

The Arab regimes of the Persian Gulf littoral states provide financial support for the Zionist regime's settlement construction activities in the Palestinian territories, a leading Bahraini activist revealed on Tuesday.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The Arab regimes of the Persian Gulf littoral states provide financial support for the Zionist regime's settlement construction activities in the Palestinian territories, a leading Bahraini activist revealed on Tuesday.

"The rulers of the Persian Gulf littoral states have invested in the occupied territories and they even provide financial support for the Jewish settlements constructed in the occupied Palestinian lands," Rashed al-Rashed, a leader of Bahrain's Islamic Amal Movement, told on Tuesday.

"They are doing this in violation of all the agreements signed in this regard which have also been approved by the UN, agreements which stress that all settlement construction activities in the occupied territories of 1967 should stop," he added.

The Bahraini activist also disclosed that Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani and Secretary of the Saudi National Security Council Prince Bandar bin Sultan have close ties with the Zionist regime.

An Israeli newspaper reported in November that Israeli authorities approved the building of 40 homes and a farm connecting two settlements near the Southern West Bank city of Bethlehem.

The new construction approvals came shortly before representatives of the Quartet of Middle East peace mediators, comprising the United States, Russia, UN and European Union, started fruitless efforts to revive negotiations.

A top Palestinian official said at the time that Israel's approval of new settlement activities in East Jerusalem and the West Bank are "incendiary and illegal actions" and called on the UN Security Council to "redress this grave matter".

Riyad Mansour, the permanent observer of Palestine to the UN, made the appeal in his letter dated to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
