The Assembly of Islamic Researches invalidates the Fatwas that deem polio vaccination forbidden

Ash-Sharif issued a statement in which it rejected those Fatwas that were issued lately deeming forbidden the vaccination against polio.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Following its official meeting in which it discussed some Fatwas that forbid vaccinating children against polio, the Assembly of Islamic Researches at Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif issued a statement in which it rejected those Fatwas that were issued lately deeming forbidden the vaccination against polio in the countries situated in East Asia as well as other countries. The Assembly declared in the statement: “This disease [polio] endangers our children’s lives, for their fate would be either death or the paralysis of certain limbs; thus, the child would become disabled throughout his life and we are bound to ward off any damage from ourselves.

The Assembly called on the parents not to listen to the Fatwas the forbid vaccination against polio, for Allah says: “They are lost indeed who kill their children foolishly without knowledge.” (06:140)./129
