Arab League condemns map claiming Arab lands as part of ‘greater Israel’

The Arab League has condemned in the strongest terms an Israeli map that claims territories of several Arab countries as part of the so-called “greater Israel.”

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Arab League has condemned in the strongest terms an Israeli map that claims territories of several Arab countries as part of the so-called “greater Israel.”

In a statement released on Wednesday, Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit “warned that the international community’s failure to address such provocative actions and irresponsible rhetoric risks exacerbating extremism and counter-extremism on all sides.”

Also in separate statements, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) denounced the move as a deliberate effort to expand the occupation.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry called the map "a flagrant violation of international legitimacy resolutions and the provisions of international law."

A ministry statement said the map "would hinder the chances of peace in the region, particularly amid the ongoing brutal war on the Gaza Strip."

The UAE Foreign Ministry, for its part, labeled the Israeli action “a deliberate effort to expand the occupation and a blatant violation and contravention of international law.”

It called on the international community "to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities by pressuring the Israeli occupation to comply with international legitimacy resolutions and confront its expansionist ambitions in Arab lands."

The ministry also rejected all provocative practices aimed at altering the legal status of the occupied Palestinian territory.

The ministry warned that these practices "threaten further escalation and tensions, and impede endeavors to achieve peace and stability in the region."

Several Arab countries have already denounced the Israeli map, including Palestine and Jordan.

Publishing the map coincided with “racist statements” made by far-right hawkish Israeli minister Bezalel Smotrich regarding the annexation of the Occupied West Bank and the construction of settlements in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Smotrich has revealed his desire to not only conquer all Palestinian territories up to the Jordan River but also to extend to include Damascus. Smotrich also expressed his ambition to annex territories reaching as far as Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

After recent US elections, in which Donald Trump emerged as the winner, speculation has been rife that the Israeli regime is seeking to significantly expand its settlement construction in the occupied West Bank, which has been evident from appointments made by the US president-elect.

In Gaza, many Israeli soldiers have been seen displaying their regime's expansionist ambitions by wearing patches on their uniforms that depict maps of the Israeli regime extending into many regional countries, including Syria and Iraq. The Arab League has condemned in the strongest terms an Israeli map that claims territories of several Arab countries as part of the so-called “greater Israel.”
