A man has admitted guilt in federal court to charges stemming from a shooting outside a Minneapolis mosque last summer.

The incident occurred in August near the Masjid An-Nur mosque on Minneapolis's north side.

Yancy Hall, a resident of Shakopee, was accused of shooting 75-year-old Abdul Kareem after Kareem confronted him about selling drugs outside the mosque.

Hall pleaded guilty to federal charges of discharging a firearm during a drug trafficking crime and being a felon in possession of a firearm, Kare 11 reported on Thursday.

He now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison.

The victim, who uses a cane, was shot three times and was reported to be in stable condition following the incident.

In response to the shooting, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara promised increased patrols in the area, acknowledging a recent rise in crime noted by community leaders. Additionally, mosque leaders announced plans to enhance security measures.
