What do international laws say about Iran's retaliatory attack?

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran issued a statement, considering the missile attacks of the armed forces against the military and security targets and facilities of the Zionist regime as a natural right to self-defense and in response to the aggressive actions of this regime.

The statement said: Operation True Promise 2; was a legitimate response under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

The statement emphasized: The Islamic Republic of Iran is fully prepared to take further defensive measures to protect its legitimate interests and defend the territorial and governmental integrity of Iran against any aggressive military action and illegal use of force, and will not hesitate in this regard.

In a phone call with the Foreign Ministers of the UK, Germany, and France, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi said: The Islamic Republic of Iran has only used its right to self-defense based on Article 51 of the United Nations Charter and has only targeted the military and security bases of the Zionist regime.

Amir Saeid Iravani, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Iran to the United Nations, also said: This action was taken within the framework of the natural right to self-defense, under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, and in response to the aggressive actions of the Zionist regime, including the violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the assassination of the political leader of Hamas in Tehran, the injury of the Iranian ambassador in Lebanon as a result of the deliberate and indiscriminate targeting of civilians in Lebanon with the explosion of pagers, and the assassination of the Secretary-General of Hezbollah and major general Abbas Nilforoushan, an Iranian military adviser in Beirut.

According to Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, if a member of the United Nations is subjected to armed attack, none of the provisions of this Charter shall impair the inherent right of individual or collective self-defense until the Security Council has taken the necessary measures to maintain international peace and security.
