AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Islamic Center of Midland in Michigan is set to host an open house event to invite neighbors to visit their space and meet Muslims.
The event, scheduled for on Saturday, October 21, will feature cultural displays, guest speakers, and more, according to Catalyst Midland.
Raheef Alturkmani, who is co-leading the planning and execution of the event, said that the goal is to foster unity and understanding among different communities.
"It's an opportunity to unite and focus on the things in common, and without necessarily trying to change anyone's opinion or convince anyone with any ideas. It's just an open invitation for people to come, visit and get to know the Muslim community better," he said.
The event is not the first of its kind for the Islamic center, which holds regular events throughout the year, such as weekly Friday Prayer and weekly events during the month of Ramadan.
Alturkmani said that many Muslims in Midland are immigrants or refugees from different countries, but they consider Midland their home. "This is our opportunity to bring knowledge to our Midland neighbors, and invite them to have a better understanding of who we are, and where we came from," he said.
He also expressed his hope that the event would open doors for future conversations and interactions within the Midland community. "We're looking forward to welcoming all of our Midland neighbors, and can't wait to see and interact with our guests," he said.
Islam teaches its followers to be loving and cooperative with their neighbors, regardless of their faith or background. It also commands them to protect their neighbors' life, honor, and property.
