Ahlul Bayt News Agency - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei lashed out at the US police for its cruel and humiliating treatment of people of color.
"In the US whose president is now a black person, the black people are oppressed, disrespected and humiliated and such behavior has provided the ground for unrests too," Ayatollah Khamenei said, addressing the Law Enforcement Police commanders and officials in Tehran on Sunday.
Describing the US police's behavior towards the Black as an instance of "cruel might", he said Iran does not at all intend to boost its police forces' power and might like what is seen in Hollywood movies and the US and other western communities.
"Such a might will bring about insecurity, and not security," Ayatollah Khamenei said.
He, meantime, stressed the necessity for police's powerful and mighty performance in combating crime, and said, "The Law Enforcement Police is a symbol of the Islamic Republic's sovereignty and security and therefore, it should be mighty but this mightiness doesn’t mean oppression and uncontrolled action."
His remarks came after another black teenager was killed by US police outside Chicago, Illinois, earlier this month.
The Chicago Tribune newspaper reported the Lake County Coroner's Office said that Howell, 17, was killed by two gunshot wounds to the back - one piercing his heart, spleen and liver, and the other striking his right shoulder.
Howell was African-American, according to pictures published on Twitter and broadcast by local media.
The shooting came as tensions remain high over police violence against blacks and other minorities in the wake of high-profile killings in Ferguson, Missouri and New York City, which sparked waves of months-long protest nationwide.
Howell's family, quoted by the Tribune, said he was an aspiring rapper who dreamed of attending medical school despite a troubled past, and disputed that Howell was armed when he was shot.
