Facebook, Twitter Helping Islamophobia to Grow

Popular social media outlets Facebook and Twitter have reportedly refused to remove hundreds of Islamophobic postings despite being alerted to the content by anti-racism groups.

The investigation published by The Independent on Friday showed that despite bringing hundreds of messages to attention to the social-media companies by the anti-racism groups, the reported accounts are still easily accessible.

According to the report, the number of postings against Muslims has increased significantly in recent months in the aftermath of the murder of British hostages held by the ISIL Takfiri terrorists in Syria and Iraq.

Posted messages on both Facebook and Twitter accuse Muslims of being rapists, pedophiles and comparable to cancer, while the most extreme messages call for the execution of British Muslims.

Among the reported cases involve a Facebook posting in response to the ISIL beheadings saying for every person executed by the militants, 10 should be killed.

“For every person beheaded by these sick savages we should drag 10 off the streets and behead them, film it and put it online. For every child they cut in half … we cut one of their children in half,” the post read.

This is while top Muslim figures have excommunicated the ISIL terrorist group and repeatedly condemned the atrocities carried out by the extremist militants against all communities in Iraq and Syria.

When the anti-racism groups reported the Islamophobic messages, Facebook said that they did not violate the organization’s guidelines, the report said.

Fiyaz Mughal, director of Faith Matters, said he was disappointed by the social media companies’ response to the posted abusive messages.

The report comes as recent released figures by the Metropolitan Police showed that crimes against Muslims in the capital London has soared by 65 percent over the previous 12 months.
