AhlulBayt News Agency - The US Department of Justice announced that an African-American woman from the US state of Mississippi has been jailed for 12 years for seeking to support ISIS.

An African-American woman from the US state of Mississippi has been jailed for 12 years for seeking to support the ISIS, the US Department of Justice announced on Thursday.

"Young, 20, of Starkville, Mississippi, was sentenced today to serve 144 months in prison for conspiring to provide material support to the ISIS of Iraq and the Levant, a designated foreign terrorist organization," the statement said.

On March 30, Young pleaded guilty before Chief US District Judge Sharion Aycock of the Northern District of Mississippi.

The Justice Department noted that Judge Aycock imposed Thursday’s sentence and ordered Young to serve a 15 year term of supervised release following her imprisonment.

Muhammad Oda Dakhlalla, 23, also of Starkville pleaded guilty to the same charge on March 13 and will be sentenced in August, the statement noted.

Prosecutors said the two had planned to fly to Turkey then cross into Syria to join the ISIS, WTVA news in Oxford, Mississippi reported.
