AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Describing the great work of the 11th and 12th governments in the field of railway development in the country, President said, "The railway system has expanded to 14000 kilometres compared to before this government’s term of office, which was 9600 kilometres, which means that 45 per cent of the country’s railways has been constructed during the 11th and 12th governments’ term of office”.
Speaking on Tuesday at the opening ceremony of Golshahr-Hashtgerd express electric train line, President Hassan Rouhani said, "By the end of the 12th government, 1000 more kilometres will be added to the nationwide rail system, which means that 50 per cent of the country’s railway system has been constructed in the 8-year period of the 11th and 12th governments’ term of office”.
“Everything is transient; the government, the state and power are short-term and not eternal. What is eternal is serving this great people who have displayed their bravery time and time again in hard days,” said Rouhani.
He added, "Despite the toughest sanctions on the country, people have stood steadfast against the enemies and ill-wishers”.
“Day after day, our hard-working workers, engineers and managers provide a new service to the people,” said Rouhani.
The President continued, "According to the reports given in this ceremony, our dear workers had only 4 days off and they have been working 24/7 to provide this service to the people”.
On the importance of taking advantage of modern technologies for people’s welfare, he said, "This is what God and the Prophet (PBUH) have ordered us to do”.
“In the beginning years after the Revolution, there was a fierce argument in the first Majlis about whether the country requires metro or not, which did not yield a result,” he said.
In the second Majlis under the Late Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani’s chairmanship, we came to the conclusion that Tehran needs metro, he said, adding, "Mr Dorri Najafabadi and I were given the task to create and construct Tehran Metro, and today, reports show that over 9 billion trips have been done”.
Dr Rouhani continued, "There is no doubt that these 9 billion trips by metro have had major contributions in reducing air pollution and fuel consumption”.
“These days, the air in Tehran, Karaj and metropolises has been polluted and this pollution is the result of accumulation of pollutants for a century, and it cannot be resolved overnight,” he said.
The President continued, "If the pollutants have been accumulated for decades, governments, people and generations have to join hands to remove it. Of course, air pollution is not specific to our country and Iran is in the 16th place among countries around the world”.
The president added, "Today we are closing our schools when pollution indices show about 200, while India closes schools when it is 300. In China, they do not close their schools when it is 360. If China wants to close schools when pollution is 200, they should be closed for 6 months, and in India and Mexico with indices of 200 schools have to be closed for the entire 9 months”.
“The government understands well that for having clean air, it should decrease the emissions of petrol and diesel. In the 11th and 12th governments, the emissions of diesel have decreased to 50 and 10 from thousands,” he said.
Dr Rouhani added, "Today, 75 per cent of the petrol that is being provided to people is according to Euro4 and Euro5 standards”.
He continued, "If it were not for the 11th government’s decision to restore Lake Urmia, today 15 million people would have to migrate because in the absence of Lake Urmia, the salt dust would have covered the entire northwest part of the country, driving people out of the region”.
“Regarding petrochemical products, it was announced yesterday that production will increase to 100 million tonnes, which is a great achievement under the sanctions and economic war,” he said.
The President went on to say, "I would like to appreciate the Minister of Roads and Urban Development, the Governor-General of Alborz Province, head of Khatam‑al Anbiya Construction Headquarters, metro managers, members of the parliament, the honourable Friday Prayer’s Imam and all people involved”.
He added, "The people of Iran have made attempts for their country’s independence and dignity during the Imposed War [with Iraq] and sanctions, standing up to sanctions. Today, the Iranians will not let plunderers of yesterday have their country’s resources. There is no doubt that the Westerners have made miscalculations again”.
Referring to the joint naval drill of Iran, Russia and China in the Gulf of Oman, the President said, "Holding this drill is not a simple issue and it has made the Plunderer World very angry. They are angry about two major powers holding a joint drill with the Iranian Army Navy and IRGC Navy forces”.
“This is unbearable not only for those small countries that exercise humility before the US, but also for the Americans themselves,” he said.
The President added, "What is important is hope for the future, and anyone who undermines this hope has undoubtedly harmed the great Iranian nation and the Revolution”.
He continued, "We have become self-sufficient in rails with the work of the 11th and 12th governments, and we do not need the UK and other western countries to build rails and carriages for us. Today, we are even fully self-sufficient in building metro and its tunnels”.
