AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Stressing that student is someone who is seeking for the truth and should criticise the authority, President said, "We have to express the truth and criticise, but beware of tagging”.

Addressing students at Farhangian University on Monday to celebrate Student’s Day, President Hassan Rouhani said, "Student’s criticism must be assertive and informative at the same time”.

He added, "The government is not perfect and we welcome constructive criticism. The authority must be criticised, because if it does not, there is likelihood of being deviated”.

Stating that that, "I have had the chance to listen to students on Student’s Day for the past seven years,” the President continued, "I become happy of listening to students’ clear and critical remarks, and this freedom of speech is one of the greatest achievements of the Islamic Revolution”.

Students must have opinions in political and social issues in lieu of just studying and learning about modern technological and scientific advancements, he continued.

He added, "One of the advantages of universities is that people from different ethnic groups, girls and boys, can talk, and there are different languages and dialects”.

The university and students must voice their opinions and the system must trust in students and respect them, said Dr Rouhani, adding, "Our young generation can have the best of activities and intellectual and physical strength”.

“We are looking for a students that voices their opinions clearly and explicitly before those who hold authority,” he said.

The President continued, "Of course, this term of responsibility is limited and the student must be able to speak powerfully and criticise the authority, or else, there is likelihood of the power being deviated”.

“I believe that in expressing criticism, students must be assertive and informative at the same time,” said the President.

Stating that it is important to help each other alongside criticism, he said, "If we have a better solution, it must be expressed and used by all authorities”.

Dr Rouhani continued, “The government’s greatest achievement in the first 100 days after it took office was to make Iran’s right to enrichment recognised”.

Referring to the unfreezing of $700 million of Iran’s assets under the Geneva Agreement, he said, "The unfreezing of this amount of money brought about growth to the country”.

He also went on to mention that three phases of Setareh Khalije Fars Refinery being constructed with 36 million litres of petrol, saying, "All parts and turbines needed for this refinery were at Europe’s customs that were freed after the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)”.

Dr Rouhani added, "The PMD case, which was a major accusation against the Islamic Republic of Iran, was resolved under the JCPOA and the IAEA announced that Iran’s nuclear activities are peaceful. This is a great legal achievement for the country”.

“Before the JCPOA, we used to export 1 million barrels of oil a day, but after it, it was increased to 2.8 million barrels, which continued until the recent US sanctions against Iran,” he said.

The President continued saying that with the recent US sanctions, the price for buying goods for the country has increased 15-20 per cent, adding, "The banking system cannot work directly, and exchanges take their share, which leads to price hikes”.

He added, "Fortunately today we do not need to import natural gas and we are exporting it to countries like Iraq and Turkey”.

Referring to the government’s efforts to protect the environment and develop villages, Dr Rouhani said, "Before this government’s term of office, 14,000 villages used to have power, but in this government only, 14,000 other villages have been added to these figures”.

Answering a question on why did the government trust the US administration, he said, "We did not trust the US; this is why we said that we would accept and sign the agreement after it is approved by the United Nations”.

“Look how angry the US is after the JCPOA. The US Secretary of State has recently said that they had to destroy the JCPOA because with it being in place, Iran would be allowed to sell and buy weapons in a few months,” he said.

The President continued, "US Secretary of State is angry and says why the Europeans are not taking action against Iran, which is not living up to its commitments; this shows that the JCPOA has been to our advantage and we have done our job well”.

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran also went on to say, "The JCPOA is neither sacred, nor damned, but an international agreement”.

“The country’s next year’s budget is not based on negotiation, but based on the continuation of the sanctions, and it is our legal and revolutionary duty to take advantage of whatever we can to resolve the problems,” he said.

President Rouhani continued, “Negotiation is imperative if it leads to foiling enemy’s plots. In such a situation, we negotiation is necessary and revolutionary”.

“We must all have an active role in the elections and make a better future for the country by choosing qualified people,” said Rouhani referring to the coming parliamentary elections.
