Bahrain's Jaw detainees demand treatment amid Scabies outbreak

Detainees in Bahrain’s Jaw Prison are demanding access to proper medical treatment amid a scabies outbreak.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Detainees in Bahrain’s Jaw Prison are demanding access to proper medical treatment amid a scabies outbreak.

On Saturday, Bahraini rights campaigner Ebtisam al-Saegh shared audio recordings of three inmates housed in Jaw’s Building 12 where poor sanitary conditions and overcrowding are being blamed for the outbreak.

One of the detainees, Hassan Attia, describes the conditions as “inhumane” while calling on prison authorities to “eliminate the causes of the illness”.

Another prisoner Hussein Abdullah Salman says that his cell, designed to hold 8 inmates, houses a total of 16. According to Salman, 10 of his cellmates are ill.

International rights groups have repeatedly accused Bahraini prison authorities of willful medical negligence and a blatant disregard for the health of detainees.
