AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): An unspecified number of detainees at Bahrain’s Jaw Prison are reportedly facing retribution from authorities for protesting against deteriorating conditions.
Bahraini rights campaigner Ebtisam al-Saegh reported on Monday that inmates housed in Jaw’s building 14 refused to return to their cells over being denied family visitation, telephone calls and time in the prison courtyard.
It remains unclear what sort of measures the prison authorities are taking in response to the protest.
According to Al-Saegh, the prisoners are confined to crammed cells for up to 23 hours per day.
The poor conditions have given rise to health complications among the detainees including skin diseases.
Jaw Prison has seen a number of mass hunger strikes in recent months over what rights campaigners describe as an increase in abuses.
