AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Hunger striking Bahraini detainee Moqdad AlJaziri has reportedly been thrown into solitary confinement following an act of protest at the ‘visitation area’ in Jaw Prison.
According to activists, AlJaziri displayed his shirt where he inscribed the words: “We demand the removal of [visitation] barriers.”
The glass partitions, designed to prevent detainees from having any kind of physical contact with visiting family members, have become a major point of contention in Bahraini detention centers.
The London-based Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy (BIRD) reported on Wednesday that AlJaziri is among at least 15 prisoners who have been on hunger strike for over 20 days demanding unobstructed family visitation.
AlJaziri was arrested in 2012 and later sentenced to 14 years in prison over what rights campaigners describe as politically motivated charges.
Online activists also accuse authorities in Jaw of repeatedly denying AlJaziri access to medical care.
