Stating that Iran and Cuba are paying the price of their resistance and insistence on their independence against the United States’ expansionist policies, the President said, “There is no doubt that the two countries will pass this phase with each other’s help and the imperialist powers have no way but to surrender to the Iranian and Cuban nations”.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Stating that Iran and Cuba are paying the price of their resistance and insistence on their independence against the United States’ expansionist policies, the President said, “There is no doubt that the two countries will pass this phase with each other’s help and the imperialist powers have no way but to surrender to the Iranian and Cuban nations”.

Speaking in a meeting with the President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel on Friday on the sidelines of the 18th Summit of Heads of State and Governments of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Baku, President Hassan Rouhani stressed, “We know the Cuban nation as resistant and warrior nation”.

“Cuba and Iran are paying the price of their independence. Our resistance is famous in the Middle East, and if it were not for your resistance, the United States would dominate not only Cuba, but also the entire Latin America,” said Rouhani.

The president said, "Cuba and Iran have always had warm and friendly relations, and the two countries' positions in regional and global politics have been close to each other, and new directions for developing common economic relations, especially in the energy field, should be explored in the current period”.

Dr Rouhani stated that the views of the two countries on important international issues such as terrorism, the Zionist Regime and the need to strengthen the Non-Aligned Movement are close, adding, “The two countries have always maintained good cooperation in the fields of science and modern technologies, especially in the fields of health and pharmacy, and we are ready to develop these partnerships”.

Referring to the positive economic indices in Iran despite US pressure, the President said, "Despite the maximum pressure of the US, we have been able to overcome the problems by relying on our domestic capabilities".

At the same meeting, the Cuban President stated that Cuba has always called for warm and sincere relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and referred to Dr Rouhani’s speech at the NAM summit today, saying, “Today, you described the US expansionist policies very well”.

Noting that Cuba has always condemned America's hostile policies against Iran, Miguel Díaz-Canel referred to US’ failure to live up to its commitments over its deals with Cuba and its withdrawal from the nuclear deal with Iran, saying, “Cuba condemns the United States’ withdrawal from the JCPOA, and we always support the aspirations of the Iranian nation and government”.

The Cuban president called the Iran-Cuba ties historic and solid, and said that the economic and trade exchanges between the two countries should be developed in all areas of mutual interest.

He added, "Cuba has also suffered from unjust US sanctions, and they are now trying to impede Cuba’s access to fuel by stepping up sanctions, but we will certainly pass that stage with people’s solidarity".
