Bahraini hunger striker appeals to ICRC for help

Bahraini death row inmate Moosa Abdulla Jaafar has appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross to help him and other hunger strikers attain their demands.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Bahraini death row inmate Moosa Abdulla Jaafar has appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross to help him and other hunger strikers attain their demands.

In an audio recording shared by activists via social media this week, Jaafar confirmed his participation in a mass hunger strike involving more than a dozen detainees on death row.

“I announce that I am on hunger strike because of the poor conditions in prison dating back to 2017,” Jaafar said.

He and the other hunger strikers are demanding at least two one-hour visits per month and the removal of glass partitions, which are designed to prevent detainees from having any kind of physical contact with visiting family members.

Jaafar is a former student who was tortured and sentenced to death in an unfair trial.

In August of this year, an estimated 600 Bahraini detainees started a mass hunger strike over inhumane conditions and intensified abuses.

The strike was eventually suspended after prisoners received assurances that their grievances would be addressed.
