AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Bahraini Shiite cleric Sheikh Abdulmohsen Mulla Atiya Al-Jamri was ordered to appear for questioning at the Hamad Town Police Station on Thursday.
Activists are reporting that the reason for the summons remains unknown. Sheikh Al-Jamri has been repeatedly harassed by authorities in the kingdom in recent years over his religious sermons.
The cleric was among a handful of Shiite religious figures that were interrogated by the security services during last month’s annual Ashura commemorations.
Rights groups have accused Manama of violating the religious freedoms of Bahrain’s Shiite community through its Ashura clampdown.
Ashura, which fell on September 10 this year, marks the climax of a 10-day mourning period during the Islamic lunar month of Muharram honoring the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS).
