AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The mother of Bahraini detainee Elias Al-Mulla is worried about her son suffering a cancer relapse due to poor hygiene conditions in detention.
Al-Mulla, who is serving a 15-year prison sentence, was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in 2015 following years of torture and abuse.
The tumor was removed in 2017, but the 28-year-old still requires extensive treatment.
According to his mother, Al-Mulla recently suffered from series of infections that lowered his immunity and increased the risk of his cancer returning.
During his time in detention, authorities at Bahrain’s Jaw Prison have been repeatedly accused of withholding Al-Mulla’s medication and denying him access proper medical care.
