AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Rights campaigners are reporting that Bahraini detainee Ali al-Hajee has been on hunger strike for more than 20 days.
London-based Bahraini human rights defender, Sayed Ahmed AlWadaei, wrote in a Twitter post over the weekend that Al-Hajee is demanding access to adequate health care services.
Al-Hajee also wants to be allowed to receive family visits without the presence of glass partitions as another condition for ending his hunger strike.
He has boycotted family visits since February 2017 over the partitions, which are designed to prevent detainees from having any kind of physical contact with visiting family members.
Late last year, Al-Hajee observed a 75-day hunger strike due to long-term denial of urgent medical care by authorities at Bahrain’s Jaw Prison.
He also alleges he was tortured following his arrest in 2013 and later subjected to an unfair trial that resulted in his conviction on ‘terrorism’ charges.
