Sham-e Ghariban (Evening of Strangers) ritual for Imam Hussein (AS) was held at Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine with servants, pilgrims and neighbors of the holy shrine in attendance.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Sham-e Ghariban (Evening of Strangers) ritual for Imam Hussein (AS) was held at Imam Reza (AS) holy shrine with servants, pilgrims and neighbors of the holy shrine in attendance.

During the ceremony, servants of the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) marched toward the holy shrine from Shohada crossroad on Shirazi Street while they lit candles and whispered poems in grief of Imam Hussein (AS).

The ritual began after evening prayer with the passionate presence of people at Enghelab-e Eslami courtyard and finished after an hour by eulogies performed by Ahl al-Bayt (AS) eulogists and pilgrims whispering “Labayk Ya Hussein” (we are your loyal followers O Hussain).

The pilgrims from the Republic of Azerbaijan also held their rituals in Azeri language in Dar al-Rahma portico.

Maghtalkhani (ritual on Imam Hussein’s (AS) slaughter) in Arabic and Farsi was performed in the presence of people and pilgrims at the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) on Ashura morning.

On this day, several mourning groups from different cities in Iran attended the holy shrine to participate in Imam Hussein (AS) martyrdom anniversary rituals.

Also on the night of Ashura, largest gathering of people with the Holy Quran at their hands was held at Imam Khomeini portico.

It bears mentioning that all Ashura programs of the first ten days of Muharram were held in full security and in the presence of over 40,000 honorary servants at the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS).

Sham-e Ghariban refers to the evening of Muharram 10 (the day of Ashura) in Islamic lexicon. On this night, Shia Muslims mourn and lament the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and the tribulations and tragedies that befell the Ahl al-Bayt (AS).
