AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Ayatollah Dr. Reza Ramazani was born in 1964 in a religious family in the city of Rasht in northern Iran. Due to his desire for religious education, he began his studies informally since 1980 along with his attendance in the classical public school until he officially joined the Islamic Seminary (Hawza) in Rasht, where he completed his studies through participation in the religious classes of different Ayatollahs.
In 1988, Mr. Ramazani traveled to Qom, the city of Islamic knowledge and Ijtihad, to pursue higher education in Islamic studies. There he attended Islamic Jurisprudence courses and theological teachings of Grand Ayatollahs Fazil Lankarani, Vahid Khorasani, Makarem Shirazi, Jafar Sobhani, Bahjat Foumani, and other Shia clerics for about 14 years.
During his stay in Qom, he showed great interest in Quranic and philosophical researches as well as in ethics and gnostic sciences. In this regard, he participated in the seminars of Ayatollah Javadi Amoli, Hassanzadeh Amoli, Ansari Shirazi, Mohammad Hadi Maarifat, and Ahmed Beheshti in order to benefit from their knowledge.
On the other hand, Ayatollah Ramazani did not neglect academic and university studies, but pursued them diligently and completed them to an advanced stage. He now holds a doctorate in the field of "philosophy of ethics."
Moreover, since the beginning of his academic career, he has also been active in teaching and dissemination of divine knowledge, where he has done his best in teaching Arabic literature, logic, philosophy, Islamic Jurisprudence, ethics and Gnostic sciences Islamic history, Islamic theology, hadith, and interpretation of the Holy Quran.
His other academic activities include:
- Establishment of the first research institute on ethics - the Institute of Religion and Ethics - in 2000
- Member of the Department of Philosophy and Theology at the Encyclopedia of the Holy Quran
- Attending numerous radio and television programs as an expert in Islamic sciences
- Supervisor and consultant of MA and PhD theses in different universities
- Delivering speeches in numerous seminars and conferences In Iran or abroad
- Faculty Member at the Institute of Islamic Culture and Thought since 2002.
He has published many of his works on various topics such as the interpretation of certain chapters of the Holy Quran, Islamic Jurisprudence, Gnostic Science, Hadith, Ethics, Law, Sociology, History and Culture in general.
It is worth mentioning that some of his books and articles have been widely welcomed in cultural circles and translated into different languages such as English, German, Turkish, Arabic and Malay.
Three years after he presided over Imam Ali (a.s.) Islamic Center in Vienna, he was appointed on 30 April 2009 as Imam and Director of the Islamic Center of Hamburg, besides representing Shia Grand Ayatollahs in Germany.
At the second meeting of the Federation of Shiite Centers in Germany he was unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Federations' Committee of Clerics for Supervision and Arbitration.
Ayatollah Ramazani held many positions and responsibilities including:
- Head of the Department of Islamic Studies, Guilan University; 1992 - 1994
- Chairman of the Board of Trustees of "Al-Itrah Cultural and Religious Society" in Guilan Province; since 1996.
- Chairman of the Institute of Religion and Ethics; since 2000.
- Friday Prayer Leader (Imam Jum'ah) of Karaj city; 2001-2005
- Member of the Council of Supreme Leader's Representatives in Universities; since 2002
- Member of the Assembly of Experts (for the election of Supreme Leader); since 2006
- Director of the Imam Ali (a.s.) Islamic Center in Vienna: 2006 - 2009
- Imam and Director of Hamburg Islamic Center and Representative of Shiite Grand Ayatollahs in Germany; 2009 - 2018
- Head of the Committee of Ulama for Supervision and Arbitration of the Federation of Shiite Centers in Germany; since 2010.
- Member of the Board of Trustees at Grand Ayatollah Bahjat Islamic Seminary in Qom; since 2012
- President of the European Union of Shiite Scholars and Theologians; since 2014
- Member of the Board of Trustees of Guilan University since 2014
