Detainees at Bahrain’s Jaw Prison forbidden from marking Ashura in groups

Authorities in Bahrain’s Jaw Prison have reportedly forbidden detainees from observing the annual Ashura commemorations in groups.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Authorities in Bahrain’s Jaw Prison have reportedly forbidden detainees from observing the annual Ashura commemorations in groups.

Activists are reporting that prison authorities announced their decision over the weekend and informed the inmates that they would only be permitted to commemorate the religious occasion inside cells between 7PM and 9PM.

The ban on Ashura commemorations at the detonation facility has reportedly been in place for a number of years.

Ashura is a major part of the Shiite religious calendar when communities around the globe mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS).

Last month, the Bahrain Interfaith Center reported that Bahraini detainees were being subjected to “harassment and intimidation” for merely practicing their faith.
