AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Bahrain’s Osama Al Tamimi is back behind bars despite his deteriorating health. The former parliamentarian was reportedly arrested at his home on Thursday after he returned from hospital.
Bahraini rights campaigner Ebtisam al-Saegh is reporting that Al Tamimi was allowed to “say goodbye” to his young children before being hauled away by Manama’s security forces.
Earlier in the day, a group of agents stormed Al Tamimi’s home while he was still receiving treatment in hospital. According to al-Saegh, the incident terrified his children causing one of them to faint.
Al Tamimi’s health has deteriorated significantly following the last time he was taken into police custody in early August when he suffered a stroke.
The former MP is facing fraud charges, which Amnesty International believes “could be politically motivated”.
Al Tamimi was thrown out of parliament in 2014 for criticizing Manama’s clampdown on human rights defenders and opposition groups.
