AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): More Bahraini detainees have reportedly joined a mass hunger strike involving hundreds of inmates.
Bahraini rights campaigner Ebtisam al-Saegh reported on Wednesday that she received a phone call from the hunger strikers informing her that additional prisoners joined the protest against inhumane conditions and intensified abuses.
The hunger strike is entering its third week with many of the inmates suffering from low blood sugar levels.
According to Al-Saegh, prison authorities have made any kind of medical treatment conditioned upon inmates breaking their hunger strike.
Reports have surfaced in recent days of prison guards beating inmates in an effort to forcibly end the hunger strike.
