AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Ali Mushaima announced on Wednesday that he was resuming his hunger strike to protest his father being denied urgent medical treatment in detention.
Ali wrote in a Twitter post that his father, jailed Bahraini opposition leader Hassan Mushaima, had his upcoming doctor’s appointment canceled by prison authorities.
Hassan Mushaima is serving a life sentence for his role in Bahrain’s 2011 pro-democracy protests. He is a cancer survivor and suffers from multiple health conditions including diabetes.
Last year, Ali observed a 46-day hunger strike outside the Bahraini embassy in London over his father’s ill-treatment in detention.
In his post on Twitter, Ali also said that his hunger strike was a show of solidarity with hundreds of inmates in Bahraini detention centers.
An estimated 600 Bahraini prisoners have been on hunger strike since last week protesting against degrading conditions and intensified abuses.
