AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Amnesty International is calling on Manama to provide adequate health care services to former Bahraini lawmaker Osama Al Tamimi who suffered a stroke in police custody last week.
In a Twitter post on Tuesday, Amnesty described Al Tamimi’s condition as “critical”.
“Bahrain must continue to provide him with adequate health care in a specialized institution,” the rights group added.
The former MP was detained last Tuesday by members of Manama’s Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID).
According to Bahrain’s interior ministry, his arrest was the result of “fraud” allegations.
However, Amnesty believes those charges “could be politically motivated” and demanded Manama release Al Tamimi pending trial.
Al Tamimi was thrown out of parliament in 2014 for criticizing Manama’s clampdown on human rights defenders and opposition groups.
