Iranian Qaris killed in Mina disaster to be commemorated

A ceremony will be held in Mina, near Mecca in Saudi Arabia, next week to commemorate those killed in the 2015 Mina disaster, including prominent Iranian Qaris, an official said.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): A ceremony will be held in Mina, near Mecca in Saudi Arabia, next week to commemorate those killed in the 2015 Mina disaster, including prominent Iranian Qaris, an official said.

Speaking at a meeting with members of the Iranian Quranic delegation to Hajj in Mecca, Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Abdol Fattah Navab said the ceremony is slated for the 12th day of the lunar month of Dhul Hajja (August 14).

He further hailed the programs held by members of the delegation for Hajj pilgrims in Grand Mosque in Mecca and Prophet Mosque in Medina.

On September 24, 2015, thousands of Hajj pilgrims, including at least 465 Iranians, died in a crush in Mina, near Mecca, when performing the Hajj rituals.

Among them were five members of the Iranian Quran delegation to Hajj: Hassan Danesh, Amin Bavi, Mohsen Hajihassani Kargar, Foad Mash’ali and Saeed Saeedizadeh.

The crush was the deadliest incident in the history of the pilgrimage. According to an Associated Press count based on official statements from the 36 countries that lost citizens in the disaster, more than 2,400 pilgrims were killed in the incident.

Saudi Arabia claims nearly 770 people were killed, but officials at Iran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization say about 7,000 people, including over 460 Iranian pilgrims, lost their lives.
