AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iraq’s top Shia cleric grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani announced Saturday, August 3, as the first day of the lunar Hijri month of Dhul Hajja.
According to Furat News, the office of the top cleric announced that the first day of Dhul Hajja in the year 1440.
Hence, Eid al-Adha will fall on Monday, August 12.
Saudi Arabia and some other Arab countries had announced Friday as the first day of the lunar month.
The first day of lunar months in many Muslim countries is determined by sighting the crescent moon.
Eid al-Adha is one of the most important Islamic festivals held after the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.
Also known as the Festival of the Sacrifice, it is celebrated to honor the dedication and willingness of Prophet Abraham (AS) to sacrifice his son as an act of submission on God’s command.
