IMN responds to proscription by Nigerian government

Supporters of top Nigerian Muslim cleric Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky say they are a religious minority group and not the Islamic Movement in Nigeria which is not a registered group.

(ABNA24.com) Supporters of top Nigerian Muslim cleric Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky say they are a religious minority group and not the Islamic Movement in Nigeria which is not a registered group.

They described the proscription of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria as the plan of a foreign Arab government which works very closely with some dubious, and unpatriotic Nigerians.

Supporters of Sheikh Zakzaky were reacting to this order issued by a Federal High in Abuja banning the Islamic Movement in Nigeria and designating it as a terrorist group.

They said the court order sponsored by the Nigerian government is alien to Nigeria which is a country with different religions, cultures, and ethnic groups.

Zakzaky Supporters urged the Nigerian President to uphold the Nigerian constitution.

Zakzaky supporters said they will continue their normal religious activities.

They announced that they will appeal the order of the Federal Court that handed down the proscription of the Islamic movement in Nigeria as soon as their lawyers are ready.

Meanwhile, a Kaduna State High Court will sit on Monday the 29 July to decide on the application for medical bail filed by Zakzaky’s lawyers.

If granted, the Islamic Cleric will travel abroad for medical treatment.
